GCC Trademark Law Comes into Force in Oman

MUSCAT - Oman adopted the GCC Trademark Law that came into force in the country as of July 25, 2017.

Oman: State Council Clears Draft of GCC Trademark Law

The State Council has approved the draft law on Gulf Cooperation Council Countries (GCC) trademark as also the one on protection of Aflaj sites.
The draft law on the GCC trademark was assigned by the Council of Ministers with the reports of the Economic Committee and Shura Council.

ADDED Forms a Committee for Reviewing and Studying Patent Applications Submitted to Takamul

ADDED issued a resolution for the formation of a committee for reviewing and studying patents to be headed by HE. Khalid Mohamed Al Kaabi, Executive Director of Policy and Legislation Affairs. The Committee will study and review patent applications as per Tekamal's regulations and instructions and the laws applicable in the UAE.

GCC: Strengthening the Patent System

The General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council signed a new memorandum of understanding with the Intellectual Property Office of the People's Republic of China on May 28, 2017. The MOU is aimed at strengthening the patent system and increasing bilateral cooperation between the GCC and China in the field of intellectual property.

Kuwait: A Ray of Hope

The Kuwaiti Patent Office announced that, in collaboration with the Gulf Cooperation Council Patent Office, they have completed the formality examination for all pending Kuwaiti patent applications. It is expected that the Kuwaiti Patent Office will communicate this news directly with the agent of records and advise on the next steps—that are still not clear for the time being.

Jordan: PCT Enters into Force

After years of preparation, workshops, and meetings, Jordan has finally taken the leap and acceded to the Patent Cooperation Treaty on March 9, 2017. Given that the Treaty has effectively entered into force today, on June 9, 2017, all international applications, filed on this date or after, will designate Jordan (JO) for national stage entry.
